18-Year-Old Will Donate Organs Following Deadly Strike By Maryland Driver In PA

A community had been rallying for York County teen Dylan Flickinger after he was struck by a Maryland driver and seriously hurt, but on Thursday, Oct. 27, he was pronounced deceased by the York County coroner's office, as stated in a release on Friday, Oct. 28.

The 18-year-old Hanover resident was hit by a 2008 Pontiac G6, that was driven by Kevin Shaeffer, of Westminster, Maryland, who remained on the scene at the 1000 block of Carlisle Street in Hanover, on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 9:11 p.m., according to area police. 

Flickinger was flown to York Hospital with serious injuries, police said on Sunday. 

He was later put on a "full ventilator and not waking up yet with part of his skull missing from the surgery to help with swelling and brain bleeding," his family wrote on a GoFundMe campaign page. 

Despite life-saving efforts, he died an accidental death from a subdural hematoma due to multiple blunt force trauma, according to a release by York County coroner Pamela L. Gay. 

There will be no autopsy but a routine toxicology will be performed, Gay says. 

"His family will give the GIFT of LIFE to several persons needing transplants," LaVon Leppo writes in a separate GoFundMe. 

Combined, the two GoFundMe campaigns have raised $2,459 of a $25,000 goal to cover the medical bills and memorial services. 

Police continue to investigate this now deadly, anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information has been asked to contact detectives at the Hanover Borough Police Department by calling (717-637-5575 or 911.
